Head across the desert in the pre-dawn darkness to the launch site in the desert. As the sun slowly rises over this beautiful sandy landscape, the gas burners are ignited and the balloon slowly comes to life. Soon you will be soaring into the immense blue of the desert sky and enjoying magnificent views of the rugged Hajj Mountains to the east and the 21st century Dubai skyline to the west. The balloon flight lasts for around an hour and each experience is totally unique with the flight route and landing location totally dependant on the wind strength and direction. Your day starts with a fascinating 90-minute drive through the ever-changing desert scenery to Al Ain. Built on an oasis, this stunningly green city is also known as the ‘Garden City’ and stands out like a verdant emerald in the heart of the hostile desert. Once a key stop on the Caravan route to Oman, the settlement dates back thousands of years and was originally a cluster of small villages around the fresh water springs. Experience the life of yesteryear as you take a stroll through the Al Ain Oasis with its traditional Falaj irrigation system that provides the fresh spring water that feeds the date plantations. From here continue to Al Ain Museum – one of the most important museums in the UAE where you can see artifacts from the famous nearby excavation, ancient Arabic manuscripts and royal treasures. Also pass by the archeological Hili tombs dating back 5000 years, surrounded by a marvelous botanical garden. Overview
The scenic drive along the East Coast will take you through the agricultural lush oasis of Al Dhaid, renowned for its fruit and vegetable plantations. Your then climb wadis and steep mountain passes as the colourful desert gives way to spectacular mountain scenery. Your journey takes you past several fishing villages that look as though they have not changed for centuries. Wander around the old village of Dibba and enjoy the stunning views across the Indian Ocean before enjoy a traditional lunch. Here there is also a chance to take a relaxing swim in the sea.
Continuing along the coastline, you arrive at Al Bidya Mosque. Dating from the 15th century, this is the oldest Mosque in the Emirates. Your journey then takes you port towns of Khor Fakkan and Fujairah, passing by the ruins of the mountain dwellers and the 300-year-old Fort of Fujairah. The tour concludes with a visit to a local market where you can shop for fruit, carpets and pottery.
